I was born and raised in Limon, Costa Rica. I studied Microbiology in the University of Costa Rica until I transferred to University of Florida, where I worked as an undergraduate researcher with Dr. Stephanie Karst and Dr. Brent Reynolds. After graduating, I moved to Durham to work with Dr. Cagla Eroglu at Duke as a postbac researcher. After my time in the Eroglu lab, I decided I wanted to stay in neuroscience, and joined the Neurobiology program at Duke. I completed my PhD thesis in the Mooney Lab, where I studied the neural mechanisms of vocal control and variability. I am now a postdoc in the Andermann Lab, where I use optical methods to better understand how our brain encodes and uses the wide array of incoming signals from our body.
